It is with great sadness that the Teixeira and Gomes families announce that Valdemeiro "Val" Teixeira, beloved husband, father, son, brother, family member, and friend, passed away suddenly on November 25, 2021, at the age of 39. Everyone who knew Val, no matter how little, has lost a shining light in their lives.
Val was born on September 1, 1982, in Boston, son of Henrique and Ernestina (Soares) Teixeira. Val grew up in Dorchester and graduated from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 2005 where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management. Val was a skilled football player and played quarterback on the UMass Dartmouth football team. For the past 11 years, Val worked in healthcare management for Teladoc Health, Inc.
Val met the love of his life, Dr. Elizabeth Gomes, when he accompanied a friend to Elizabeth’s medical school graduation party in the summer of 2010. They were married on July 4, 2015—Elizabeth’s parent’s anniversary—and welcomed Olavo Joseph in 2017 and Ernesto Elias in 2019. Val was a loving, devoted, and selfless husband and father.
Val was an avid sports fan and loved all Boston teams, especially the New England Patriots. His newfound passion was coaching football. This year he began coaching for The Rivers School in Weston, MA, and for Mass Elite Football. Val’s athletes adore him and coaching brought him great joy. Val never knew a stranger and had the gift of making anyone feel welcome. He had a big heart and loved without bounds. Anyone who knew Val was touched by his kindness and he is already dearly missed by so many.
Val is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, and sons, Olavo and Ernesto, of Rumford, RI. Val was preceded in death by his parents, Henrique and Ernestina Teixeira, his brother, Jose Francisco Teixeira.
Val also leaves seven siblings, Antonio Teixeira and his wife Gertudes (Fidalgo) of Randolph, MA; Joaquin Teixeira of Malden, MA; Claudio Teixeira of Santiago, Cabo Verde; Maria Teixeira of Milton, MA; Maria Eduarda Teixeira Gomes and Rosaria Virgina Teixeira, both of Boston, MA; and Bernedette Teixeira and her husband Manuel Alves of Hyde Park, MA. Val is survived by 19 nieces and nephews, who he adored, and many other family members and friends.
Val planned most family reunions, loved teaching young family members about financial independence, and supported his wife and sons in every way imaginable. Life without him feels impossible. Val will be remembered forever for his integrity, positive outlook on life, contagious smile, and desire to leave the world a better place.
Relatives and friends are invited to Val’s Memorial Service, with Visiting Hours from 4:00-7:00pm, at Keefe Funeral Home, Lincoln, RI on Friday, December 3. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Saturday, December 4 at Saint Anthony’s Church, 32 Lawn Avenue, Pawtucket, RI. Burial will follow at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence, RI.
Forever Loved, Forever Missed, and Forever in our Hearts.
